Marthey, Joseph Thomas Age 50 of Canton passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wooster, Ohio on September 6, 1958, to the late Bernard A. and Peggy (Hill) Marthey. Joe had made his home in Canton for the last 20 years. He was self employed as a general contractor. Joe was a member of NRA, and the Vice President of the Canton RC Airfield Club. He enjoyed flying RC airplanes, biking, where he had biked from Ohio to Florida; he also enjoyed gardening, and spending time with his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald J. Marthey, and his fiancée, Anita J. Smith. Survivors include his siblings, Linda (Scott) Heinz of Seffner, FL, Patricia Frye of Eureka, MO, Michael (Carolyn) Marthey of Wooster, OH, Renee (Robert) Brenner of Navarre, OH, James (Patty) Marthey of Wooster, OH, Mary (Greg) Fetzer of Creston, OH, Michelle (Travis) Fields of Ely, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in Calmoutier Cemetery in Holmes County. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. FANO, RICHARD A. Richard A. Fano, age 74, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday morning in his home following an extended illness. Born in Canton he was the son of the late Carl B. and Mary A. (Pellegrine) Fano. A 1950 graduate of McKinley High, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was part owner of the Ben Heggy Candy Company and was owner operator of the Aero Tech Hobby Store in North Canton. Dick was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton and the North Canton Radio Control Club. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Heggy) Fano of North Canton; sons, Michael J. (Christine) Fano of Atwater, Joseph E. (Julianne) Fano of Uniontown, Steven E. Fano of Beach City; daughter, Laura Ann Monastra of North Canton; brothers, Robert E. (Maryann) Fano of North Canton; grandchildren, Jason, (Laura), Shane, Kristina, Chad, Justin, Taylor, Emily, Suzie, Karlie, Casey and Shane (Amy). Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, with Msgr. James A. Clarke as celebrant. Entombment will be in North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.

SLOAN, ROY P. Roy P. Sloan, age 67, of Canton, died comfortably Wednesday morning, May 30, 2007, at his home. He was born on July 14, 1939 in Canton to the late Merick Sloan and Babetta (Steele) Henderson. He graduated in 1958 from Canton McKinley High School and served with the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Diebold Company after 32 years of service. Roy was a valued member of the Canton RC Club. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Margaret J. (Huth) Sloan, to whom he was married in 1973; his children, Kevin (Kathy) Sloan of Canton, Leslie (Melinda) Sloan of Colorado Springs, CO, Tracy (Larry) Brooks of Newton, NC, and Erica Sloan of Canton; three stepchildren, Bill Hileman, Vonnie Laconca and Dawn Hileman; grandchildren, Torri, Holly, Tommi and Toni Hileman, Michael and Brianna Sloan, Danny Manley, Dominique and Michael Laconca, Tessa Miller, Todd Melott and another on the way. He also leaves behind sisters, Carolyn (Dick) Totten and Mary Ellen Sloan. Roy was known and loved by many. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services and burial will be private.
