SAFETY FIRST!

Recently a story has resurfaced about Casey Rowe, who had an accident with a model aircraft back in 2004.  Casey was almost killed in this accident, having his back pierced by the propeller almost to the spine and kidney, and his leg was almost severed.  Stories of the event spread like wildfire and are even discussed today, but not all of the stories are factual and some are completely wrong.  Casey Rowe was apparently very angry about the stories that were not based on fact and was kind enough to set the record straight with the interviewer.   One ridiculous story even states that Miles Reed was flying the plane when in actual fact the plane was being flown by Casey’s friend, Bryan, and the plane was a 40% Miles Reed Design Pitts Special with a 3-W 120 and a carbon fiber propeller.

To read the whole story about the incident as stated by Casey Rowe, please follow this link, which will take you to RCHangout.com:

Casey Rowe’s Accident

This was a horribly life-threatening accident that could happen anywhere.  Casey makes a good point that safety should always be paramount in our thoughts while we fly.  He cites some good examples of safety we might all consider.

Read the story, keep the facts straight, and fly safely.  As was mentioned in the article, we want to keep our planes flying safe and intact, but it is more important that we keep our members and our spectators safely intact.

Please remember to talk with your SAFETY COORDINATOR, Mike Manos , at the field if you have concerns for anyone’s health and welfare.

For everyone’s safety, nonmembers may not fly at our field unless a current member sponsors them or a sanctioned club event is being held.  We are an AMA-sanctioned flying field and must follow AMA rules to protect our club and AMA status. These rules are in every issue of the AMA Model Aviation magazine and at www.modelaircraft.org.

Happy flying!
